Hradišťan, Jiří Pavlica. Pavlica & Zrunek: Patoral Masses. The present set opens with the Missa Brevis, composed by Jiří Pavlica in 1997 and re-written during the ensuing two years. It is coupled here with a work entitled Harmonia Pastoralis, Mass in F major, which was written by a long anonymous composer active in the second half of the 18th century, recentlyidentified as Pater Georgius Zrunek. The most original feature of this recording consists in its intertwining the sound of the soloists, chamber chorus and orchestra, with that of the HradišťanEnsemble's cymbalom band. The resulting effect is thoroughly extraordinary.

Pastorale refers to something of a pastoral nature in music, whether in form or in mood. In Baroque music, a pastorale is a movement of a melody in thirds over a drone bass, recalling the Christmas music of pifferari, players of the traditional Italian bagpipe (zampogna) and reed pipe (piffero). Pastorales are generally in 6/8 or 9/8 or 12/8 metre, at a moderate tempo. They resemble a slowed-down version of a tarantella, encompassing many of the same rhythms and melodic phrases.
Genre: Classical: Baroque. The paradox of life which is gained through Death, the basis of Christianity, is similar to the paradox of Music ─ that is, Music played and sung live. Musical recording or Music in the media is a mere memory, it is playing at Music, a rival to Music.
Many usefull Information about Georgius Zrunek has collected his american fan Aaron Giles, who also significantly supported the creation of this Album. In attempting to find out more about it, I soon discovered how little information was out there about this work and its true composer, Georgius Zrunek.
