I'm Coming Home is an album by American pop singer Johnny Mathis that was released on September 21, 1973, by Columbia Records and was mainly composed of material written by the songwriting team of its producer, Thom Bell, and Linda Creed. Unlike several of the Mathis albums before it, I'm Coming Home relied primarily on new songs and included only two covers of established chart hits, both of which were by The Stylistics ("I'm Stone in Love with You" and "Stop Look and Listen to Your Heart").

Coming Home serves as Bridges’ full-length debut. The Fort Worth soul singer reportedly used vintage equipment while recording, which provided the album with a more authentic retro sound. All 10 tracks were produced by Austin Jenkins and Josh Block, members of the Austin garage rock outfit White Denim. In a recent interview, Bridges explained how he went from being a hip-hop artist to a soul revivalist: When I was 19 or 20 I was really into hip-hop, and one thing I took from that was the phrasing, the storytelling.
Been watching myself in the mirror, for 40 plus some years. And seeing how time, makes you wrinkled and gray. Remember when we were young, we had all the time in the world. My head is empty and I need a break. I have to be hungry again to breathe and create. Life don't come easy, it's always the same
