A clarinet concerto is a concerto for clarinet; that is, a musical composition for solo clarinet together with a large ensemble (such as an orchestra or concert band). Albert Rice has identified a work by Giuseppe Antonio Paganelli as possibly the earliest known concerto for solo clarinet; its score appears to be titled "Concerto per Clareto" and may date from 1733. It may, however, be intended for soprano chalumeau

The Clarinet Concerto in A, K622, completed in 1791, the year of Mozart’s death, marked his farewell to instrumental music. It was also the first clarinet concerto to be written by a major composer – except that Mozart did not write it for the clarinet at all. In fact, it is rare that we ever hear this most famous of wind concertos played on the instrument Mozart intended – the basset clarinet, a clarinet that has four semitones added to its lower range.
This Concerto was composed around 1875 and is good fun to play for the more advanced clarinettist. The work displays some of the incredible technique that Bärmann must have possessed and follows the usual three-movement form. Copland, Aaron (1900 – 1990) Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra. This Concerto was dedicated to Benny Goodman and composed in 1949. The Concerto is littered with lyricism and the influence of jazz. Tartini didn’t actually write a Clarinet Concerto at all, but what constitutes this concertino is a collection of movements from his violin sonatas. The outcome is actually a very coherent and delightful concertino with a light and bright overall feel. It is not a difficult concertino to play well but delightfully engaging.
