Karen Therese blends Mississippi-style blues and gospel with Native American musical traditions to deliver what she calls "Indian soul. The unique combination was a success from its inception. Her independent 1994 debut, Karen Therese and Jai Café, received a nod from the Minnesota Music Awards, taking home the title of Best Adult Contemporary Album. She followed up in 1999 with Heart of the Wolf and Warrior of the Heart was issued two years later. Before working on her sophomore album, she spent time in the musical revue Electric Pow Wow and toured the . Since that time, she has established Jai Café, her own production company, and emerged as a Native American spokesperson. The singer/songwriter's lineage includes Native Americans of Cherokee, Chickasaw, and Choctaw descent.
