Vakio (CD, Album, RE). Blast First, Blast First. Unfortunately, the album is even more obtuse than an album I bought described as the most obtuse album ever.
Pan Sonic's first full length album. It was recorded when they were still known as Panasonic and had the lineup of Mika Vainio, Ilpo Väisänen and Sami Salo. This record is a re-release. The original appeared on a 4x10" box.
The then trio's debut album shows Pan Sonic already well on its particular voyage into capturing the spirit of total innovation via strictly electronic means.
Vakio was my introduction to the world of Panasonic/Pan Sonic and minimalist electronica, and at the time I had no idea of the possibile wealth of depth of sounds that on the surface seemed so - well, minimal. Think of a time when you knew something was missing from your mantelpiece. Even though you've seen it every day for years, you still can't work out what's missing.
