The album was the band's first full-length studio album with new lead vocalist Steve Augeri, who replaced popular frontman Steve Perry, and with Deen Castronovo, who replaced Steve Smith as the band's drummer.

Arrival (Journey album). Arrival" exhibits hard rock influences akin to the band's material from the 1970s and 1980s, while also featuring several ballads in the signature style the band achieved with Perry. Frontman Augeri's vocal work also retains a style quite similar to Perry Conten.

Album Arrival (2000). Neal Schon, Deen Castronovo, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valory. Journey "Arrival" (2000) album.

Arrival is the first Journey album without Steve Perry, and it is much, much, much stronger because of it. While the band's old hits are deservedly famous in karaoke lounges and classic FM, Perry's vocals were always shrill and ultimately unappealing. Secondly, Arrival is the only Journey album which features NO hits (big surprise, it's 15 years since their heyday) and NO TASTELESS FILLER! For a band like Journey, this is a big deal- it means that they actually have to produce worthy songs throughout the album, rather then crank out one hit than phone the rest in.

When Steve Perry dropped out after the release of Trial By Fire, Journey was stuck in a very uncomfortable place. How in the world do you replace Steve Perry??? He has that rare one in a million voice that sores above all songs and emits the emotion of Sam Cooke as well. VH1 aired a behind the music and the band aired their differences out in separate interviews. Towards the conclusion of the special, the band aired themselves playing with new recruit Steve Augeri. Steve A can hit those notes and sounds rather nice doing so. This album is a decent collection of tunes and some are very good. It's worth checking out even 17 years later. Unfortunately life on the road with Journey is cruel and Steve A was toast after 6-7 years from lack of vocal rest.
