The Three Tenors, a superb concert featuring famous Italian songs, opera arias and ensembles, at the Auditorium di Santo Stefano in Florence. Staged at the Auditorium di Santo Stefano al Ponte Vecchio in the heart of Florence, The Three Tenors is a magnificent concert that features some of the best in Italian music. Harking back to the world famous 'three tenors' concert of the 1990s which featured the vocal luminaries of Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo and José Carreras, this version of the performance includes many of the same musical pieces sung by a trio of talented male singers. In addition to operatic music, audience goers can expect to be serenaded by a number of Neapolitan songs, a popular form of music in this. Giuseppe Verdi Questa o quella per me pari sono, from Rigoletto. Giacomo Puccini Recondita armonia, from Tosca.

Artist Profile: Giuseppe Di Stefano, ‘The Most Beautiful Tenor Voice’ of All Time. For many, there has never been a more beautiful lyric tenor voice than that of Giuseppe di Stefano. Luciano Pavarotti once stated that, "Di Stefano is my idol. It was the most incredible, open voice you could hear. The musicality of di Stefano is as natural and beautiful as the voice is phenomenal. Giuseppe Di Stefano (24 July 1921 – 3 March 2008) was an Italian operatic tenor who sang professionally from the mid 1940s until the early 1990s. Called Pippo by both fans and friends, he was known as the "Golden voice" or "The most beautiful voice", as the true successor of Beniamino Gigli. Luciano Pavarotti said he modeled himself after Di Stefano. In an interview Pavarotti said "Di Stefano is my idol. It was the most incredible, open voice you could hear

Giuseppe di Stefano began to study voice as he trained for the priesthood in a Jesuit seminary in Milan; his teachers included Luigi Montesanto and Mariano Stabile. Mobilized into the Fascist army at the age of 19, di Stefano helped make ends meet by singing popular music under the pseudonym of "Nino Florio. Deciding he'd had enough of service under Mussolini, di Stefano deserted to neutral Switzerland in 1943. Some of these early di Stefano recordings are yet regarded as the finest in this genre. The Metropolitan Opera of New York soon became interested, and di Stefano made his bow at the Met in Rigoletto on February 25, 1948. Di Stefano first appeared with Callas in a production of La traviata given at São Paulo on September 9, 1951.

Audio CD, Import, November 11, 1997. Other tenors had better techniques, but no other, not Bjorling, not Gigli, not even Bergonzi had a bigger heart than Giuseppe Di Stefano. When Pippo sang, he meant every word. And his voice was like sunshine. Those of us lucky to have heard him live (in my case not that long ago), know that he is a living miracle. 5 people found this helpful.
