Billboard Top Hits: 1980. When Rhino's Billboard Top Hits series hit the 1980s, the collection began to lose a little steam. From 1980 through 1985, the discs are representative of the pop mainstream, although there were the usual major artists missing. Still, the discs contained plenty of one-hit wonders and classic singles like "Bette Davis Eyes," "Jessie's Girl," "Down Under," "Maneater," and "Centerfold," with the highest concentration of good singles on the 1983 volume

The 1980 volume of Billboard Top Hits is one of the better ones. It contains Disco, Soft Rock, and Soul. Beginning with Blondie's "Call Me" their second appearance in the series is energizing. Followed by Irene Cara's dance movie anthem "Fame", The Spinners's cover of Frankie Villa and the Four Seasons's "Working My Way Back To You", and Lips, Inc.'s disco anthem "Funky Town". Elton John returns to the Billboard series with the ballad "Little Jeannie" after appearing in the 1973-1976 volumes. Diana Ross makes a surprising comeback with "Upside Down" her biggest hit since 1968's "Love Child". The Pointer Sisters are back with their second Billboard Hits song "He's So Shy". Next we have "Please Don't Go" which marks KC & The Sunshine Band's third and final appearance in Billboard Top Hits. Captain & Tennille have another chart topper with "Do That To Me One More Time" repeating the success of "Love will Keep Us Together". To end the 26th volume of Rhino's year by year compilation series we have The SOS Band's "Take Your Time". This funky disco song is a real good way to end the first year of the decade.
