everything that's real takes some time to know you can't just take a glance the story has to unfold and every time you do look the other way you might be walkin' backwards you might be leading yourself astray. no one will stop you, no this world is built for ignorance you have to learn to break free this path is well worn down many have come before you now to be alive is to see. oh you've got enough on your plate wearin' you down oh you've got your priorities straight and no one can push you around.

I liked that Keelan Ellis doesn’t retroactively impose current mores, morals, and socio-political views on the era but keeps a clear eye on the future. I loved the author’s sure grasp of time and place. I loved that though in the eyes of society Cliff is the one making a drastic change and taking a leap, Richard is on his own, equally life altering journey, reconciling his past to what his future can be, saying farewell to a former lifestyle while not completely shutting it out, in part because it’s not what Cliff wants. The stories she really connects with are about love that’s been twisted into hatred, and she believes that with honesty and forgiveness, love can overcome.
