I heard Leonard Bernstein conducting a Vienna Philharmonic performance of one of Beethoven's symphonies. at Wolf Trap Park in northern Virginia more than 25 years ago. Between the warmth for which the Vienna is famed and the vitality of a Bernstein performance, this seemed to be a special performance.
