Today" has appeared on several Smashing Pumpkins official releases, including the band's greatest hits album Rotten Apples and the box set Siamese Singles. A live version of "Today" performed in the band's hometown of Chicago was included on the 1994 video release Vieuphoria and on its companion album Earphoria, and was praised as "a triumphant recording" by Pitchfork's Chris Dahlen. A different live recording from Chicago appears on the promotional album Live in Chicago 2. 0. 95 and the song is featured.
While The Smashing Pumpkins most popular early singles tend to feature distorted guitars and driving drum patterns – which is why they are frequently associated with the grunge and alternative scenes – closer inspection quickly reveals much more complex approaches to song-writing, instrumentation and recording. Where many of the genres’ major acts tend towards simple power chords and repetitive song structures, The Smashing Pumpkins chose to go with more variety. The final single for Siamese Dream was Disarm, and it is fairly distinct from the rest of the album. It features soaring cello and violin, with timpani rather than standard drums. Lyrics such as Cut that little child and The killer in me is the killer in you led to controversy, including a banning by the BBC. The second half of the album did not produce any singles, but the quality is just as high as the first half.
Best Smashing Pumpkins Albums. The Top Ten. 1 Siamese Dream. Maybe the best album of the 90's. Literally the best album that has ever went in my ears. Whoever doesn't like this, or hasn't listened to it, they are missing out. Awesome. This album may have more filler than "Siamese Dream'', but overall it's just a better album. The opening piano is beautiful, and the way the album flows is perfect. You have emotional, epic orchestrated pieces like "Tonight Tonight'' and hard rocking songs like "Jellybelly'' or "Bullet with Butterfly Wings. This album got me through some tough times, and changed my life more than any album ever had.
The four tracks that were selected as singles became alternative radio standards - the anthems "Cherub Rock," "Today," and "Rocket," plus the symphonic ballad "Disarm" - but as a whole, Siamese Dream proved to be an incredibly consistent album. Such compositions as the red-hot rockers "Quiet" and "Geek . were standouts, as were the epics "Hummer," "Soma," and "Silverfuck," plus the soothing sounds of "Mayonaise," "Spaceboy," and "Luna

Does the Smashing Pumpkins’ second album, Siamese Dream - released 25 years ago on July 27, 1993 - take the title of best alt-rock guitar album of the ‘90s? For those who love dreamy hooks and diary-like lyricism, the answer is often a resounding, "duh. There’s stiff competition for this vaunted crown, from Nirvana to Pavement to Soundgarden to My Bloody Valentine to whoever else you think deserves it, all of whom released classic six string-centric LPs during an era known for its classic six string-centric albums. But it’s his commercial vision that triumphs here, from the music to the cover art to the playful music videos that accompany its singles. Part of what makes Siamese Dream so great is that it’s the ultimate outsider album-it’s a middle finger to the sound of the day, a reminder that trends are lame and some things about rock never change.
