The DW Jazz Orchestra is a new 17-piece big band led by r Louis Danowsky and trumpeter Sam Wolsk, two twenty-year-old jazz students at Northwestern University. Inspired by the bands of Count Basie, Thad Jones, Quincy Jones, and Christian McBride among others, the band formed as an outlet for the duo’s compositions and arrangements. They released their debut album, Coalescence, this past May which was recorded at Avatar Studios and featured the original work of Danowsky, Wolsk, and their colleagues at Northwestern

Composer Dan Peters got his inspiration for the tune "A Wild Sheep Chase" from the Haruki Murakami novel. One year after Coalescence was recorded, he has found himself studying abroad in New Zealand, where sheep outnumber people. We didn't expect him to take the whole thing so literally.
Danowsky, a saxophonist, and fellow student and trumpeter Sam Wolsk have just released their debut album, Coalescence, which features a 17-piece ensemble, conducted by Danowsky, playing original pieces that draw their influence from Count Basie to Quincy Jones. We met in the New Jersey All State Jazz Band, Danowsky said of Wolsk. The two became friends, and Danowsky was pleased when he learned Wolsk would also be attending Northwestern

I was first exposed to jazz at Montreal's International Jazz Festival. I met Charles Lloyd in Brussels after an outdoor concert. Listening to him live then talking to him after the show left a strong impression on me.
Coalescence is an album by American jazz drummer Whit Dickey recorded in 2003 and released on the Portuguese Clean Feed label. Dickey leads a quartet built around a traditional lineup with Roy Campbell on trumpet, Rob Brown on alto sax and flute and Joe Morris on acoustic bass in place of guitar.
