Juliana Hatfield (born July 27, 1967 in Wiscasset, Maine, United States), is an American gwriter from the Boston area, formerly of the indie rock band Blake Babies. The daughter of Philip M. Hatfield (a radiologist) and The Boston Globe fashion critic Julie Hatfield, Juliana was born in Maine and grew up in the Boston suburb of Duxbury. I See You. "Please retry". Third single from "Hey Babe", "I See You" is valuable to Juliana Hatfield fans for its collection of b-sides- indeed all three of the cuts on here would have served "Hey Babe" well. Feed Me", a delicate acoustic guitar-and-vocal number about anorexia, where Hatfield's girlish vocal goes far to nicely express the anguish of a girl trying so hard to be loved, was likely left off "Hey Babe" because of its similar mood to "Ugly" (also included here). The first two songs are on her "Hey Babe" album, so if you have that, this might not be so essential. Of course fanatics might need this. All 5 tracks sound as good as she looks.

She wants the man That’s playing in the band She can’t get it up She just wants to fuck She’s got the disease The female disease Aims only to tease Always on her knees She has no brain at all Her head’s about to fall People always laughing In her face and behind her back Suckin’ dick, kissin’ butt. Going down, open up I saw you backstage Pulling up your skirt I wish it was a nightmare Because it hurt I see you do this to yourself and every other girl You’re giving me a bad name ‘Cause it’s a mans mans mans mans Mans mans mans mans world Guilt by association Makes it hard for me to work

Her upcoming album Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John (out April 13 via American Laundromat Records) is perhaps even bolder. As the title explains, the record features Hatfield’s renditions of 13 Olivia Newton-John classics, and is blissfully free of irony. Her loving takes on songs like Hopelessly Devoted To You and Physical are done with joy and care. You know, some days I think this country is failing, it’s a failing experiment. But then some days, I see the pushback and I see the ongoing resistance to everything that’s bad and I think that’s really encouraging. I almost don’t even want to play the songs from Pussycat anymore. I think that’s partly why I wanted to do the Olivia Newton-John record.
