Demidenko played Chopin as clearly and lucidly as Grieg; for him, it was clear that romanticism was not the epoch of wafting emotions and little harmlessness for the salon, but a serious development of music-on the shoulders of his great predecessor. is interpretation of the A minor piano concerto combined intimacy and precise sophistication with great power and energy – without ever losing sight of the fine structures. Nikolai Demidenko is an extrordinary pianist. Nikolai’s interpretations of Brahms and particularly Prokofiev were defined by a high degree of musical individuality. He is clearly a very sensitive performer.
