Dónal Lunny isn't a legendary figure in Irish music for nothing. He helped revolutionize it with the Bothy Band, in addition to his own work and guesting on other peoples' albums. So when he put a band together, it was bound to be interesting.

Donal Lunny is an icon in the Celtic music industry and not for small favors. A virtuoso musician in what was, arguably, one of the best Celtic bands of all time (The Bothy Band), he was also instrumental in introducing musicians who have subsequently become the best of the best. Altan and Sharon Shannon head up a very long list. I bought the album for the haunting 2nd track 'Lowlands of Holland' and will never tire of it! The remainder of the album seems to lose impetus, but the musicianship remains superb. The accompaniment is spare and perfect and the mixing lends an essential mellow feel, so the reels don't sound raw. It's an album I rarely play completely through because some songs irritate after a while: 'False Fly' has a repetitive refrain, and the Moravian folk song seems at odds with the other content.
