Jirí Belohlávek conducted the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a performance that featured this symphony and with that powerful ensemble and brilliant acoustic of the Disney Hall created a magic the audience will not soon forget. Belohlávek is an under-appreciated conductor able to draw magic from ensembles. And this recording, including the very popular and inordinately beautiful tone poem 'The Wood Dove' deserves more attention than it has received. A perfect introduction to a neglected Dvorák masterpiece. Grady Harp, December 06.

Symphony N. 'Fantaisies symphoniques'. 3-4. I Lento – Andante moderato – Allegro – Lento. Recorded live at the Barbican in London, these recordings represent the first complete CD cycle of Martinů’s symphonies conducted by Jirí Belohlávek. The critically acclaimed concerts were given to mark the 50th anniversary of Martinů’s death in 2009. Martinů’s six symphonies are a major contribution to 20th-century symphonic literature, and yet are still undervalued. Spanning the years during and after the Second World War, they capture the turmoil, hopes and fears of the composer and his homeland.
Czech composer Antonín Dvořák (1841–1904) composed his Symphony No. 112, in 1880. It was originally published as Symphony No. 1 and is dedicated to Hans Richter, who was the conductor of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. With a performance time of approximately 40 minutes, the four-movement piece was one of the first of Dvořák’s large symphonic works to draw international attention.
