Peter Gabriel's, entitled Shaking the Tree: Sixteen Golden Greats, arrived in December of 1990, as he was toiling away at the follow-up to his smash So, which was four years old at that point. As greatest-hits albums go, it's pretty good, containing all the hits, plus an effective re-recording of "Here Comes the Flood" and a good new song in the form of the title track

After departing from Genesis in the mid-1970's, Peter Gabriel embarked on a solo career that would go on to become quite successful- with such radio favorites as "Shock The Monkey" and "Sledgehammer". "Shaking The Tree: 16 Golden Greats", Gabriel's first ever solo compilation, successfully captures that endearing innovativeness and desire to shake things up that drives through all of Gabriel's LPs. The disc, largely made up of tracks from 1986's "So", offers a whole and satisfying portrait of one of pop radio's most respected statesmen.Final Rating-9/10Stand-Out Tracks- "Here Comes The Flood", "I Have The Touch", "Red Rain" and "Games Without Frontiers"

Greatest Hits collections are generally a good way to sample a certain artist's work, and Peter Gabriel's Shaking The Tree serves as a nice introduction to his long, endlessly intriguing career. Not quite a perfect collection, and most of the tracks seem to be edits and remixes of some sort, but when you've got all the Gabriel classics like Solsbury Hill, Sledgehammer, Shaking The Tree, Don't Give Up, Games Without Frontiers, I Have The Touch and Big Time, there's not that much to complain about.
