Byrdland, which was originally released in 1966, and More Brazilian Byrd, released in 1967, find Byrd playing two widely different sets. On the first, he is joined by bassist Joe Byrd, drummer Bill Reichenbach, trumpeter Hal Posey, and saxophonist Teo Macero. When the heat turns up on "Blues for China" and "Work Song," Byrd cuts loose and pulls out all the stops. Both move briskly and are backed by lively Latin percussion

Charlie Byrd introduced me to the world of Brazilian samba music in the 1960's. It is enchanting, soothing, sensuous music that has a lilting quality to it-goes well with champagne and candle-lit dinners. I only wish there were more. If you like this also get the Stan Getz/Byrd/Joabim album. Absolutely sensational. These songs sung in the original Portugues are wonderfully romantic pieces that are the perfect set piece for an evening of romance.
